Cover for Windows XP Cookbook
Published July 19, 2005 by Robbie Allen
My editor just sent me the cover for my latest book, Windows XP Cookbook (Amazon), which is due out in August. The animal for this book is a garter snake. So far I’ve had a house cat, tuna, raven, baboon, and garter snake don the covers for my five O’Reilly books. Quite an assortment!

Damn, 5 books. I’m really impressed. How long does it take you to write one?
Actually six including my first one with Addison-Wesley but who’s counting ;-)
It takes me about a year doing it part-time. Since it takes 3 months to publish a book once the writing is done, I’m averaging about 15 months from signing to print. My first book took closer to 2 years. I’m finding that I’m getting more efficient the more books I write.
I’d like to talk eye-to-eye sometime about this… I’m interested in writing and have process questions…
Sure. I’m actually giving a talk to STC-Carolina in August on writing/editing. I’ll shoot you a copy and we chat f2f in the Fall.
Congrats on the books! Cool animals, too =)
I still want a manatee for the new one. :-)
Sorry for the late comment… I have been reading your other blog, Robbie’s MIT Musings, which unfortunately has been inactive lately. :-(
Anyway, nice cover and congratulations on your new book. I want signed copies of your books… Just kidding. I am a mac head now so there’ll be little use of Windoze books. :-| Anyway, keep up the good work. I’ll see you in 2 1/2 weeks!!!
